Healthy Habits for Women Over 40: Why Simplicity Wins

Why We Believe We Need to Do More

By Rebecca Coffey | Workout Moms Fitness

Have you ever felt like you're doing all the things but still not seeing the results you're hoping for?

I think many of us have been there.

As women, especially over 40, we're constantly surrounded by messages telling us to do more. More workouts. More supplements. More social media. More productivity. More hustle.

But over my birthday weekend, God gently reminded me of something I think many of us need to hear:

Sometimes doing less allows us to accomplish more.

A Birthday Weekend That Changed My Perspective

This year, I celebrated another birthday surrounded by people I love.

Friday evening was spent enjoying a wonderful birthday dinner with family and friends. While not everyone I invited could make it, I chose to focus on the people who were there instead of those who weren't. It was a beautiful reminder to be grateful for the blessings right in front of me.

On Saturday, my sister and I visited the Titanic Exhibit in Charlotte before sharing dinner together. Later that evening, I met up with some girlfriends for drinks and a charcuterie board, laughing, catching up, and simply enjoying each other's company.

By Sunday, I was completely worn out—in the best way.

Instead of feeling guilty for resting, I stayed home all day, had my groceries delivered, took a short nap, and gave my body permission to recover.

And honestly...

I needed it.

The Lesson God Was Teaching Me

While reflecting on the weekend, I also spent some time evaluating my business.

Like many business owners, I've invested countless hours creating social media content, trying to stay consistent, hoping it would reach more people.

But as I looked back, I realized something.

Every client I've gained has found me through my website—not through social media.

That realization caused me to pause.

Was I spending my time where it was actually producing fruit?

I felt challenged to simplify.

Not because social media is bad, but because I want to be intentional about investing my time where it truly serves others and aligns with the direction God is leading me.

Why Simplicity Creates Better Health

As I thought about simplifying my business, I realized this lesson applies to our health, too.

So many women believe they need the perfect workout plan, the perfect diet, or the newest wellness trend before they can make progress.

But lasting transformation usually comes from consistently doing the simple things well.

Healthy Habits That Matter Most

Things like:

  • Strength training a few times each week.

  • Walking daily.

  • Drinking enough water.

  • Eating nourishing foods most of the time.

  • Prioritizing quality sleep.

  • Managing stress.

  • Spending time with God.

None of these habits are flashy.

They probably won't go viral on social media.

But they work.

Small, consistent choices repeated over time often produce the greatest results.

Progress Over Perfection

I've learned that chasing more isn't always the answer.

Sometimes we simply need to remove the distractions and focus on what truly matters.

In business.

In our health.

In our relationships.

And in our faith.

When we stop trying to do everything, we create space to do the right things well.

One Question to Ask Yourself This Week

As you read this, I want to encourage you to ask yourself:

Where am I making my wellness journey more complicated than it needs to be?

Is there one habit you can simplify this week?

Maybe it's committing to three strength workouts instead of seven.

Maybe it's taking a daily walk instead of feeling pressured to do an intense workout every day.

Maybe it's choosing to spend ten quiet minutes with God before reaching for your phone each morning.

Small steps matter.

Consistency matters.

Faithfulness matters.

My Encouragement to You

If there's one thing I hope you take away from this week's message, it's this:

You don't have to do everything to make meaningful progress.

Whether you're building a healthier body, growing your confidence, or creating a life that honors God, lasting change doesn't happen overnight.

It happens one faithful choice at a time.

Let's stop chasing more.

Let's focus on what truly bears fruit.

And let's build a life of wellness—mind, body, and spirit—one simple habit at a time.

If you're tired of chasing quick fixes and are ready for a personalized wellness plan built around sustainable habits, I'd love to help. Together we'll create a realistic plan that fits your life and helps you become healthier in mind, body, and spirit.
